Men’s Lacrosse: Titans Drop Conference Game at Hanover

HANOVER, Ind. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost, 17-12, at Hanover College in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) game on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Zack Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) led the Titan offense with a game-high seven points (four goals and three assists).
 
Hanover (6-6, 4-0 ORLC) took a 3-0 lead with three-straight goals in the first quarter (11:18, 10:59, 10:30). Westminster cut the Panthers' lead to 3-2 with a goal each by Zack Shorts (3:03) and freshman Max Wike (Highland, MD / Resrvoir) (1:27).
 
In the second quarter, after a Hanover goal (13:47), the Titans netted two consecutive goals, courtesy of sophomore Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hershey) (10:17) and freshman Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) (7:11) to even the score, 4-4.  The Panthers added two more goals (4:58, 00:48) and led 6-4 at halftime.
 
Zack Shorts found Walker for the first goal of the third quarter, bringing the score to 6-5. Hanover followed with two goals (7:06, 4:06), extending its lead to 8-5. Westminster got within one point of the Panthers' lead (8-7) after a goal by each Walker and Zack Shorts. Again, Westminster got within one point of Hanover's lead (9-8) in the third when freshman Alex Kennedy (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) scored with 42 seconds remaining; Zack Shorts earned the assist. The Panthers scored with 12 seconds remaining in the third and led 10-8 after three quarters of play.
 
Zack Shorts scored to start the fourth quarter (11:51), getting Westminster within one point, again (10-9). The Panthers, however, pulled away after scoring seven of the last 10 goals; Ryan Shorts registered two goals (8:26, 1:10), while Zack Shorts added one for Westminster.
 
Freshman Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) led Westminster with 10 groundballs, while Sam Green of Hanover tallied 17. Hall collected a career-high 27 saves at the net in a complete game effort. Hanover's Joseph Deleo registered a team-high six points (three goals and three assists).
 
Westminster (2-5, 1-5 ORLC) will next host ORLC foe Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday, April 20 for its last regular season home game, starting at 7:30 p.m.
