Volleyball: Thiel Tops Westminster, 3-1

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team lost, 3-1, at Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match Thursday evening.

Thiel (9-13, 3-8 PAC) started set one with a 7-0 lead. Westminster (12-13, 5-8 PAC) got within three points (12-9) of the Tomcats' lead after a kill by sophomore Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield). The three-point margin would be the closest Westminster would get for the remainder of the set and Thiel won 25-17. The Tomcats held a slight 18-17 lead in the second set and were able to hold off the Titans for a 25-22 win. Set three was tied 18-18, however two-straight kills by Titan first-year Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) put Westminster in front, 20-18, and the Titans held on for a 25-21 win. Westminster was up 4-0 in the fourth set, however, the Tomcats responded with an 11-2 run to take an 11-6 lead. Westminster continued to battle and cut Thiel's lead to 22-19 after a kill by Lexie Yoho (Pittsburgh, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart). The Tomcats, however, won the set and the match after winning three-straight points for a 25-19 set four win.

Saxton and DeGeorge led the Titan offense with 11 kills each, while Yoho had 10. Sophomore Ashley Barker (Warren, PA / Warren Area) dished out a team-best 20 assists, while tying with senior Megan Little (Slippery Rock, PA / Slippery Rock) for a team-high one service ace. Junior Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Cochranton) topped the Titan defense with 19 digs, followed by sophomore Mackensie Garris (Meadville, PA / Saegertown) and Little with 14 apiece. Senior Lauren Slater (Plum, PA / Oakland Catholic) registered a team-high three blocks, while senior Katie Pricener (Wilmerding, PA / Serra Catholic) and Yoho had two each.
