Football: Titans Nearly Upset No. 14 W&J, Fall 35-31

Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College football team (1-1) nearly pulled off an upset over the no. 14 nationally ranked Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday after leading 24-14 following three quarters of play. The Presidents (2-0), however, scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to come back and win 35-31.

Titan sophomore Kimu Kim (Canfield, OH / Canfield) scored a pair of touchdowns on the ground, the second giving Westminster a 30-28 lead, capping off a 11-play, 73-yard drive, with 2:26 to play in the game. Junior Justin Dahl's (Cochranton, PA / Maplewood) extra point put Westminster in front 31-28.

The Presidents on their ensuing possession, however, drove the ball down the 1-yard line in just over a minute and scored on fourth down after Ryan Ruffing notched his fourth touchdown of the game, giving the Presidents a 35-31 lead with 1:04 on the clock.

The Titans, with one timeout, tried to answer on their next possession but a diving interception on second-and-one sealed the Presidents victory.

Westminster out-rushed Washington & Jefferson, 199-87, led by Titan sophomore Dominique McKinley (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg-Salem) who rushed for a game- and career-high 163 yards and a touchdown, his second 100-yard game of his career. The last time the Presidents were held under 100 yards rushing was last year against the no. 12 Wittenberg University in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs; this was also the only time that W&J was held under the century mark on the ground last season.

Titan sophomore quarterback Paul Columbo (Boca Raton, FL / West Boca Raton Community) went 9 for 19 with 125 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Sophomore Jametrius Bentley (Lake Worth, FL / Park Vista Community) had three catches for 84 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown.

Junior Mac Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Northgate) led the Titan defense with 8.5 tackles, while freshman Marvin Liberiste (Naples, FL / Lely) tallied eight. Senior Richard Ellebie (Farrell, PA / Kennedy Christian) had a game-high two sacks. Sophomore Todd Jeter (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) returned an interception for a touchdown, while senior Justin Shaw (Monaca, PA / Central Valley) also had a pick.

Westminster will next play at Bethany College on Saturday, Sept. 19, with a kickoff time of 1 p.m.
