Women’s Basketball: First Half Struggle Downs Titans at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team was unable to recover from a 60-19 halftime deficit, as the Titans lost 87-54 to the Saint Vincent Bearcats on the road Saturday.

Saint Vincent (19-2, 13-1 PAC) took an early 15-2 lead with 15:16 remaining in the first half. Westminster (4-17, 3-11 PAC) cut the Bearcats' lead to 17-8 after sophomore Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) found senior Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) for a three-pointer with 13:40 on the clock. That, however, would the closest the Titans would get to the Bearcats' lead as Saint Vincent out-scored Westminster 43-11 for the remainder of the half to take a 60-19 lead. In the first half, Saint Vincent out-shot Westminster 53.8% (21-39) to 17.9% (5-28).

Westminster, despite improving its shooting to 41.2% (14-34) in the second half, the Titans were unable to able to overcome the deficit.

First-year Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) and Grandy led the Titan offense with 12 points each. First-year Danielle Dindak (West Homestead, PA / Serra Catholic) added a career-high eight points. First-year Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) led on the glass with a game- and career-high 10 rebounds.

Westminster will look to snap a four-game losing streak when it plays at Bethany College on Wednesday. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
