WASHINGTON, Pa. - The seventh-seeded Westminster College women's basketball team lost 62-52 at the third-seeded Washington & Jefferson College in the 2014-15 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
W&J took a 12-6 lead after a three-pointer by Alexa DelGreco with 16:24 on the clock. Westminster got within two points of the Presidents' lead five different times for the remainder of the half. The latest came at the 4:15 mark when first-year Danielle Dindak (West Homestead, PA / Serra Catholic) made a layup bringing the score to 30-28. The Presidents led by as much as 11 points (39-28) with 1:30 remaining and had a 39-31 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Titans cut W&J's lead to 48-41 after first-year Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) found sophomore Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) for a three-pointer with 14:17 on the clock. That, however, would be the closest Westminster would get.
Titan senior Allison Borts (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) was the lone Titan scorer in double-digits with 10 points. Durbin and Grandy added nine points each, while Dindak registered eight. First-year Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) led Westminster with eight rebounds and dished-out a game- and career-high six assists. Durbin added a team-high three steals.
For the game, Westminster out-shot Washington & Jefferson 35.1% (20-57) to 26.8% (15-56). Free throws made an impact as W&J shot 27-for-39 (69.2%) and Westminster shot 7-for-15 (46.7%). The Presidents dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Titans 51-36. W&J's Valerie Dunlap had a game-high 17 rebounds.
Westminster finishes the season 7-20 overall and 5-13 in the PAC. Washington & Jefferson (20-6) advances to the PAC Semifinals.
