NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team won 79-63 over Washington & Jefferson College at home in the play-in game of the 2014-15 Presidents' Athletics Conference Championship Tournament.
The Presidents (2-24) held an 18-9 lead with 10:48 remaining in the first half. W&J led by the same amount (27-18) with 5:56 on the clock, however the Titans went on a 14-4 run to take a 32-31 lead, their first since early in the game, after junior Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) scored a layup with 1:20 remaining. Westminster led 37-33 at intermission.
The Titans maintained their lead for the remainder of the contest. The Presidents got within five points (67-62) of Westminster's lead with 2:22 remaining. Westminster did not let W&J get closer as it out-scored the Presidents 12-1 in the final minutes.
Four Titans scored in double-digits led by sophomore Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham) who scored a career- and game-high 20 points. Also scoring in double-figures for Westminster were sophomore Matt Getsy (Mars, PA / Mars) (17), Carswell (16), and sophomore Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) (12). Getsy and Pozsgai led Westminster on the glass with seven and six rebounds, respectively. Freshman Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) had a team-high four assists.
For the game, Westminster out-shot Washington & Jefferson 51.9% (27-52) to 42.9% (24-56) and held a slight 32-31 rebound advantage.
Westminster (7-19) will play at the no.1-seeded Saint Vincent College on Tuesday in the PAC Championships Tournament Quarterfinals. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
