Men’s Basketball: Titans’ Comeback Comes Up Short at Bethany

BETHANY, W. Va. - The Westminster College men's basketball team's second half comeback came up short as the Titans lost 74-63 at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Bethany College Wednesday night.

Bethany (14-8, 9-4 PAC) held a 44-24 halftime lead, however Westminster (5-17, 2-11 PAC) got within four points (61-57) of the Bison's lead with 5:19 remaining in the game. Bethany sealed the victory after out-scoring Westminster 13-6 for the remainder of the game.

In the first half, the Titans tied the game at 10 after sophomore Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham) found classmate Matt Getsy (Mars, PA / Mars) for a three-pointer with 13:09 remaining. The Bison finished the half with a 34-14 run to take a 44-24 lead at intermission.

The Titans rallied in the second half after out-scoring the Bison 43-27 for the first 15 minutes to cut Bethany's lead to 61-57 with 5:19 to play. The run was capped off with a three-pointer by Pozsgai. Bethany, however, took a double-digit lead (67-57) with 2:08 on the clock and maintained it for the remainder of the contest.

Four Titans scored in double-figures led by junior Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) with 15 points. Junior Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and Pozsgai registered 11 points each, while Getsy scored 10. Pozsgai solidified his first career double-double as he grabbed down a game- and career-high 11 rebounds. Carswell added eight rebounds, while freshman Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) had nine points and six rebounds.

Westminster out-shot Bethany 32.3% (20-62) to 31.3% (20-64). The Bison out-rebounded the Titans 51-40.

The Titans will look to snap a five-game losing streak on Saturday when they host Thiel College at 3:30 p.m. The PAC Network will broadcast the contest.
