NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Sophomore
Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) scored a career-high 18 points in the Westminster College women's basketball team's 66-48 loss to La Roche College at home Saturday afternoon.
In front 9-4 with 4:27 remaining in the first quarter, La Roche (7-2) went on an 8-0 run to take a 17-4 lead with 1:24 on the clock. The Redhawks led 20-9 after the first and 30-20 at halftime.
Westminster (0-8) opened the third quarter with an 11-4 run to pull within three points (34-31) after junior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) connected on a pair of free throws with 6:23 left in the period. The Redhawks, however, quickly responded with an 11-0 run and took a 45-31 lead with 4:24 on the clock. Westminster would get within nine points of La Roche's lead three times, the latest at 8:46 in the fourth quarter, but that would be the closest the Titans would get.
Durbin, sophomore
Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler), and sophomore
Danielle Dindak (West Homestead, PA / Serra Catholic) scored five points each. Fromknecht led Westminster on the glass with seven rebounds and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Durbin and first-year Annie Popoff (Erie, PA / Mercyhurst Prep) registered six rebounds each. The six boards were a career-high for Popoff. Popoff also dished out a team- and career-high five assists and led the Titans with a career-best three steals.
The Titans are back in action Tuesday, Dec. 29, when they host Carnegie Mellon University at 6 p.m.
