WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost 73-47 to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University on the road Wednesday night.
Westminster (4-14, 3-8 PAC) was in front for the first five minutes of the contest and led 9-5 after a three-point field goal by sophomore Shelby Brown (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) with 15:42 remaining. Waynesburg (9-9, 6-5 PAC) responded with a 13-0 run to take an 18-9 lead with 10:29 on the clock. The Titans quickly recovered and orchestrated an 8-0 run to cut the Yellow Jacket's lead to 18-17 with 5:08 left before halftime. Waynesburg, however, outscored Westminster 14-2 and took a 32-19 lead at intermission.
The Titans continued to battle in the second half and got within five points (41-36) of Waynesburg's lead after sophomore Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) converted on a tradition three-point play with 11:31 to play. The Yellow Jackets would not let the Titans get any closer and ended the game with a 32-11 run.
Senior Allison Borts (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) led the Titan offense with 13 points. Durbin led Westminster on the glass with seven rebounds to go along with nine points. Brown added 10 points, while first-year Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) scored seven. First-year Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) contributed off the bench with six rebounds.
Waynesburg out-shot Westminster 37.7% (23-61) to 33.3% (16-48). The Titans held a 38-33 rebound edge.
Westminster is back in action Saturday when they host Thomas More College in PAC action at 1:30 p.m.
