Women’s Basketball: Titans Upset Bethany for First PAC Win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - In a game where there were 17 lead changes, the Westminster College women's basketball team upset Bethany College, 62-53, for its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win of the season.

Both offenses started off slow as the game was tied 2-2 after seven minutes of play. Tied 15-15 with 4:17 remaining in the first half, Westminster (2-12, 1-6 PAC) outscored Bethany (7-7, 3-4 PAC) 6-2 for the remainder of half to take a 21-17 halftime lead.

The Bison had a commanding 38-28 lead after a 21-7 run to start the second half. Westminster responded with a 12-1 run to take a 40-39 lead with 9:54 on the clock after sophomore Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) found senior Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) for a three-point field goal.

After the game was tied 50-50, the ninth tie of the game, with 6:26 on the clock, Westminster regained the lead and outscored the Bison 12-3 for the remainder of the contest.

Three Titans scored in double figures, led by senior Allison Borts (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) with 18 points, who shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Durbin and first-year Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. Durbin and Borts both registered a double-double as Durbin had a career-high 12 rebounds and Borts had 11 boards. This was Durbin's first and Bort's seventh double-double of their respective careers. Fromknecht added seven rebounds.

Bethany out-shot Westminster 35.7% (20-56) to 30.5% (18-59). The Titans dominated on the glass with a 51-35 rebound advantage.

Westminster will host Geneva College on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Titans will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 2005 PAC Championship team during halftime.
