Men’s Basketball: Scott Registers Double-Double in Westminster’s Loss to Waynesburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost 70-63 to Waynesburg University in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium on Monday.

Westminster (3-11, 0-5 PAC) led 24-15 when junior Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) made a pair of free throws with 4:08 remaining in the first half. Waynesburg (8-7, 4-2 PAC) outscored the Titans 12-2 for the remainder of the half to take a 27-26 halftime lead.

The Titans regained the lead (34-33) when sophomore Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham) drained a three-pointer at the 16:15 mark.

Westminster was up 45-44 with 9:33 on the clock, however, Waynesburg started to pull away with a 15-4 run to take a 59-49 lead with 4:07 remaining. The Titans would get within four points (59-55) of the Yellow Jackets' lead, but were unable to get any closer.

Titan freshman Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) registered his fourth career double-double as he scored a team-high 16 points and had a game- and career-high 15 rebounds. Junior Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) scored 14 points, while Pozsgai and sophomore Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) added 10 points each. Pozsgai also had six rebounds, while freshman Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) had five.

Westminster out-shot Waynesburg 40.7% (24-59) to 34.4% (22-64). Both teams had 42 rebounds.

The Titans are back on the court Wednesday when they host Bethany College (6-8, 1-4 PAC) at 8 p.m.
