ALTOONA, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 72-70, at Penn. State-Altoona after the Lions scored a layup with no time remaining.
The Titans (2-5) were unable to hold off the Lions (3-3) as Westminster was up by as much as 15 points midway through the first half and held a 36-30 halftime lead. Penn. State took its first lead of the game with 5:29 on the clock in the second half.
With the game tied, 70-70, with 24 seconds remaining in the game, Westminster was unable to take the lead after a missed three-pointer.
The Lions out-shot the Titans 50.0% (26-52) to 41.3% (26-63). Westminster held a 35-32 rebound edge.
Four Titans scored in double-digits, led by junior Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) with 17 points. The other three Titans in double-figures were freshman Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) (16), sophomore Matt Getsy (Mars, PA / Mars) (12), and sophomore Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) (11). Scott led Westminster on the glass with nine rebounds. Wallander and freshman Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) added five boards each.
The Titans will travel to Thomas More College on Saturday for their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
