NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 71-58, to Thiel at home in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Wednesday.
For the game, Thiel out-shot Westminster (3-16, 2-8 PAC) 53.7% (29-54) to 37.7% (20-53) and out-rebounded the Titans 37-29.
Thiel (7-9, 4-6 PAC) led for the majority of the first half and took their first double-digit lead after a three-pointer with 2:43 remaining, giving the Tomcats a 35-25 lead. The Tomcats were in front 37-30 at halftime.
The Tomcats remained in front in the second half and took their largest lead of 18 points (61-43) with 6:49 on the clock.
Titan sophomore Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) scored a team-high 15 points, followed by senior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) with 11 points. Freshman Matt Getsy (Mars, PA / Mars) tallied a team- and career-high eight rebounds to go along with nine points. Sophomore Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) also added nine points.
Luke Kochka led Thiel with a game-high 17 points, while Eric Mallinger posted a game-high 13 rebounds.
Westminster will face-off with Saint Vincent on the road on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
