Men's Basketball Drops W&J 73-60

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Freshman Ben Donlow (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary) paced the Westminster College men's basketball team with his fourth career double-double with game-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds in the Titans' 73-60 win over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington and Jefferson. The Titans improved to 5-15 overall and 4-8 in the PAC, while the Presidents dropped to 6-14 and 2-9 in league action.

There were four ties and five lead changes in a back and forth first half. Westminster was down 22-15 half way through the first, however managed to muster an 8-0 run topped off by a Donlow three-pointer to give the Titans a 23-22 lead. Junior Ron Martino (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) earned the assist.

Westminster never trailed after a 33-29 halftime lead. The Titans' largest lead came with 2:29 on the clock when junior Ruben King (Tarentum, PA / Highlands) nailed two free throws to give Westminster a 71-54 edge.

Sophomore Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) and junior Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) added 14 points each. Junior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and Martino scored nine and seven points, respectively. Smith grabbed eight rebounds, while Carswell registered six. Donlow pocketed a game- and career-high three steals.

The Presidents' Andy Carter led the team with 13 points, while Mitch Locher had a team-high eight rebounds.

The Titans shot 43.3% (26-for-60), while W&J shot 40.3% (25-for-62). Westminster also had a 39-38 rebound advantage.

Westminster heads on the road to face Grove City on Saturday (Feb. 4) at 3 p.m.
