CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - Despite leading by 12 points in the first half and nine in the second, the Westminster College men's basketball team fell to Thomas More College 79-68.
Down 8-6 at the 16:41 mark, the Titans (2-11, 1-5 PAC) took its largest lead of the first half (22-10) after a 16-2 run. The Saints (9-5, 4-2 PAC) finished the half strong with a 24-11 run to go up 36-35 at intermission.
The Titans were up 52-43 with 13:15 left in the second half. However, Thomas More took a 63-62 lead with 4:57 on the clock and never looked back. The Saints outscored Westminster 16-6 for the rest of the game.
Freshman guard Ben Donlow (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) led four Titans in double figures with 12 points. Junior guard Doug Smith (South, Pa./South Park) followed with 11 points, while junior guard Matt Shiner (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) and sophomore guard Anthony Thomas (New Castle, Pa./Union) added ten apiece. Junior forward Adam Carswell (Painesville, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) led on the glass with six rebounds.
Thomas More outshot and outrebounded Westminster 54% (27-for-50) to 38% (27-for-71) and 41-29, respectively. The Saints also led at the charity stripe 80.8% (21-26) to 62.5% (5-for-8). Titans forced 17 Saints turnovers, while only committing nine.
Westminster is back in action next Tuesday (Jan. 10) as it travels to Penn State-DuBois at 7 p.m.
