Westminster Drops to PAC Powerhouse Thiel 98-61

Greenville, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team could not overcome Thiel's shooting performance as the Titans lost 98-61 on Saturday. The Tomcats shot 61% (42-for-69), while the Titans shot 36% (20-for-55). Westminster dropped to 4-15 overall and 3-8 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference and Tomcats improved to 14-4 and stay perfect in the conference (11-0).

In the first six minutes of the first half, Thiel went ahead 19-8. A jumper from sophomore Kendall Hunter (McKeesport, PA / McKeesport) moved Westminster to double digits at the 12:03 mark (22-10).

Junior Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) led the Titans with 15 points with 5-for-9 shooting from the floor, including a game-high three three-pointers. Classmate Ron Martino (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) and freshman Ben Donlow (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary) added eight points each. Junior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) grabbed a team-high four rebounds.

At the free throw line, Westminster was 70% (14-for-20) compared to Thiel at 52.9% (9-for-17). The Tomcats outrebounded the Titans 42-25.

Westminster is back on the hardwood next Wednesday (Feb. 1) as it hosts Washington and Jefferson at 8:00 p.m.
