NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team came out of halftime shooting 20% better than it did in the first half resulting in a 55-43 victory over Geneva College. The Titans improved to 4-11 overall and 4-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The Golden Tornadoes dropped to 3-13 overall and 2-7 in the conference. Junior Katie Hughes (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) led Westminster with 14 points. Senior Emily Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) tied a season-high with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Westminster held a 2-0 lead for the first eight minutes of the game and maintained the lead with a 19-17 halftime edge over Geneva.
The Titans' second half performance shooting 46.7% (14-for-30) compared to its 25.8% (8-for-31) in the first proved to be the difference in Westminster's double-digit win.
Also contributing on offense for Westminster was junior Danielle Gilmore (Washington, Pa. /Trinity) and senior Emily Montone (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) with 10 points each, marking Montone's career-high.
Hughes added seven rebounds, while sophomore Courtney Zitt (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) had six. Westminster dominated the offensive boards with 25 rebounds compared to Geneva's 14.
Samantha Fisher led Geneva with a double-double with a game-high 18 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Rachel Rouan added 11 points.
Westminster looks to make it two-straight wins as it travels to Saint Vincent this Saturday (Jan. 21) at 4:00 p.m.
