NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team never led in a 76-66 loss to conference foe Bethany College tonight inside of Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The Titans dropped to 2-13 overall and 1-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). The Bison improved to 14-2 and 6-1 in the PAC.
Westminster cut Bethany's lead to 33-28 with 2:13 left in the first half with a 8-3 run after a jumper from Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) and an assist courtesy of junior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin).
Bethany stayed ahead in the second half and finished the game strong with an 8-2 run.
Smith and sophomore Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) led the Titans with 16 points each. Junior Ron Martino (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) added 12 points and freshman Ben Donlow (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary) scored 10 to go along with a team-high nine rebounds. Carswell added eight points and eight rebounds. Smith also dished out a team-high five assists.
Bethany's Nick Wilcox led the Bison with 21 points. James Barton added 20, while British Alexander recorded a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Bethany outshot Westminster 51% (26-for-51) to 46.7% (28-for-60).
The Titans are back in action next Wednesday as they host Geneva at 8:00 p.m.
