Women's Basketball Wins Convincingly Over Chatham, 57-38

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Capitalizing on its opponents' turnovers resulted in a 57-38 win for the Westminster College women's basketball team over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Chatham University. The Titans scored 27 points off 28 Cougars miscues.

Westminster improved to 3-10 overall and 3-4 in the PAC. Chatham dropped to 2-11 and 2-5 in conference play.

It was evenly matched in the first 15 minutes of play before the Titans had an offensive surge with a 10-3 run to take a 29-21 lead at intermission.

The Titans picked up where they left off in the second half with a 12-0 run for the first five minutes of play. Westminster's largest lead was at the 4:41 mark, when it was up 57-33.

Westminster's junior forward Katie Hughes (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) led all scorers with 14 points with 7-for-13 shooting from the floor. Sophomore guard Courtney Zitt (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) added 11 points. Senior forward Emily Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) and senior guard Emily Montone (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) contributed with eight and six points, respectively. 

Dolsak led on the glass for the Tittans with eight rebounds. Zitt grabbed seven rebounds and sophomore guard Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Alvernia) had five.

For Chatham, Lizz King had 11 points, while Marguerite Sargent added nine to go along with a team-high nine rebounds.

The Titans outshot the Cougars 38.7% (24-for-62) to 25% (11-for-44). Chatham held a slight 37-36-rebound advantage. Westminster produced 10 fast break points, while Chatham had none.

Westminster looks to make it two-straight conference wins as it faces Bethany College on Saturday (Jan. 14) at 2 p.m. inside of Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
