Men's Basketball: One-Loss Medaille Tops Titans in SJF Consolation Game

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Medaille rebounded from its only loss of the season by beating the Westminster College men's basketball team, 84-66, Friday afternoon in the consolation game of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament hosted by St. John Fisher. Westminster drops to 2-9 on the season and Medaille, which lost to Dickinson in overtime in the opening round on Thursday, improves to 11-1.

Junior guard Doug Smith (South Park, Pa./South Park) drained four 3-pointers for the Titans before finishing with a team-high 16 points.

Junior guard Reuben King (Tarentum, Pa./Highlands) came off the bench and bucketed a season-high 10 points including a pair of 3-pointers.

Other notables for the Titans included junior forward Adam Carswell (Painesville, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) posting six points, a team-high four assists, five rebounds and two blocks. Freshman guard Ben Donlow (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) posted a team-high six rebounds to go with his nine points and sophomore guard Anthony Thomas (New Castle, Pa./Union) also sank nine points to go with three assists and five boards.

David Shuey led Medaille with a game-high 17 points on 6-8 shooting from the floor. Angel Flores also netted 16 points to go with a game-high six assists.

The Mavericks shot an efficient 56.9 percent (29-51) from the floor compared to Westminster at 42.4 percent (25-59).

Westminster never led in the game. Medaille mounted an 11-point, 39-28 lead at halftime and the Mavericks held at least a 10-point gap the entire second half. The closest the Titans got was a 10-point, 74-64 spread with 2:25 left.

Westminster returns to conference play when the Titans host Grove City Wednesday at 8 p.m.
