Men's Basketball: Capital Outguns Titans in Buzz Ridl Classic Finale

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost to visiting Capital, 82-62, Saturday in the second day of the 20th annual Buzz Ridl Classic after the Titans led by 10 points in the first half and trailed by two at halftime. The Titans finish the Classic with a 0-2 record as their record drops to 1-2 overall. Capital (2-0) wins the Classic with its first two wins of the season.

Thiel (1-2) defeated Otterbein (1-1), 75-71, in Saturday's other Buzz Ridl Classic game.

Sophomore guard Ben Donlow (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) came off the bench and led the Titans with 15 points, while junior forward Adam Carswell (Painesville, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) bucketed 13 points to go with a team-high five rebounds. Carswell was named to the all-Classic team. Sophomore guard Anthony Thomas (New Castle, Pa./Union) led the Titans with four assists to go with nine points.

Spencer Niekamp and Kelly Winter represented Capital on the all-Classic team including Niekamp earning Most Outstanding Player honors. Niekamp scored a game-high 24 points on 10-13 shooting from the floor, while Winter netted 18 points on 7-11 shooting to go with a team-high four assists.

Capital shot 59.3 percent (32-54) from the floor compared to Westminster at 41.4 percent (24-58).

Westminster led 24-14 in the first half before Capital came back to take a 39-37 lead at halftime.

Capital's lead swelled to 11 by the halfway point of the second half and the Crusaders outscored the Titans 33-17 in the game's final 14 minutes.

Westminster travels to Mount Union Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
