NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Senior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) became one of the Top 10 scorers in school history while also distributing a career high in assists to lead the Westminster College men's basketball team to an 87-70 win over visiting Waynesburg Wednesday night.
The Titans improve to 7-14 overall and 3-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-16 overall and 0-9 in league play.
Murray bucketed a game-high 22 points while dishing out his career-high seven assists. Murray shot 6-12 from the floor, including 4-7 from 3-point range, in addition to a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. He also snared nine rebounds and three steals.
Murray now has 1,415 career points, moving him into 10th place on Westminster's all-time scoring list. Murray surpassed All-American Chuck Davis, who scored 1,408 points from 1956-60, on Wednesday to enter the Top 10.
Murray wasn't the only Titan to enjoy a career night, as freshman guard Ron Martino (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) set a new career high with 15 points.
Other notables for Westminster included junior guard Max Spinner (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) bucketing 16 points on 6-9 shooting and freshman center Adam Carswell (Painesville, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) tossing in nine points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Jeff Young led Waynesburg with 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Ben Altmeyer and Larry Alexander scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Titans shot 46.2 percent (30-65) from the floor to Waynesburg's 35.4 percent (23-65).
Westminster led the entire game, including a 21-point, 44-23 halftime score. The Titans led by as many as 23 points in the second half and the closest Waynesburg would get was an 11-point, 79-68 margin with 1:32 to go.
The Titans have the weekend off before hosting Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m.
