Men's Basketball: Geneva Edges Westminster

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team came up short at Geneva, 89-84, Wednesday night as the Titans fall to 7-17 on the season and Geneva improves to 13-11.

Westminster trailed the last 15 minutes of the first half and the entire second half before coming within one point of Geneva with 52 seconds left in the game. Geneva's Bryan Hill drained a 3-pointer with 23 seconds left to put the Golden Tornadoes up by four and sealed the win.

Senior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) posted game-high totals of 32 points and 11 rebounds for Westminster. He is the ninth player in school history to score 1,500 career points as he now has 1,501 points.

Murray posted his sixth double-double of the season and his fourth game with 30 or more points. He had 18 points in the first half, but did not register a point between the 8:37 and 1:10 marks of the second half.

Other double-figure scorers for Westminster were freshman guards Ron Martino (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) and Reuben King (Tarentum, Pa./Highlands) with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

That was King's second straight game with 10 points and the third game of his career scoring in double figures.

Martino tied a career high with five assists, while his double-figure scoring game was his fourth straight and ninth of his career.

Rich Colick led Geneva with 19 points, followed by Hill with 17 points. Brandon Harvey and Dave Phillips each had 11 points.

Westminster shot 52.5 percent (31-59) from the floor. Geneva fired 51.6 percent (33-64).

The Titans host Grove City Saturday at 4 p.m.
