NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost to Saint Vincent, 66-60, on Wednesday night at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The Titans drop to 7-11 on the season and the Bearcats improve to 14-4.
Senior guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) led the Titans with 21 points on 8-16 shooting from the floor for her fifth game of the season with 20 or more points. Freshman forward Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint) tied a career high with 10 points, all coming in the second half, while adding 10 rebounds for her second career double-double.
Sophomore forward Emily Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) and junior guard Kaitlin McCarthy (Lowellville, Ohio/Lowellville) posted nine and eight points, respectively, for Westminster. McCarthy led the Titans with five assists.
Three Saint Vincent players scored in double figures led by Maria Baroffio with 16 points, 12 in the first half, followed by Emily Fenton with 12 and Devin McGrath with 11.
Turnovers were the difference in the game as Saint Vincent committed just 12 turnovers while inducing 32 Titan turnovers, marking the fifth time this season that Westminster turned the ball over 30 or more times.
Westminster held a 48-28 rebound advantage. The Titans shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field, compared to Saint Vincent at 37.8 percent (25-66).
After Saint Vincent led 36-26 at halftime, Westminster came back and took a three-point lead thanks to a pair of 3-pointers Amy Dolsak, the first tied the game at 45-45 with 9:48 left and the second gave the Titans a 48-45 lead with 9:10 remaining. However, Baroffio answered for Saint Vincent with a pair of 3-pointers, one tying and one giving SVC a one-point lead with 8:18 remaining, and the Bearcats never surrendered the lead the rest of the game.
A one-point margin after two made free throws by Emily Dolsak with 1:22 remaining was as close as Westminster would get down the stretch. Fenton knocked down a pair of free throws on SVC's ensuing possession, and after a Westminster turnover, Baroffio scored to put the Bearcats up by five with 32 seconds left and Saint Vincent hung on for the victory.
The Titans travel to Thomas More, the No. 16-ranked team in the nation, on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
