Men's Basketball: Murray Scores 1,000th Career Point in Titans' Loss to W&J

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Junior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) became the 34th player in Westminster College men's basketball history to score 1,000 career points as he scored 13 points in the Titans' 80-64 loss at home vs. Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday night.

The Titans' record fall to 6-15 overall and 5-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while W&J improves to 14-6 overall and 5-3 in the league.

Murray, who led the Titans with 11 rebounds, four steals and two blocks, only scored two points in the first half before finishing with 13, seven points shy of his per-game average. He now has 1,010 career points.

Freshman forward Rob Briggs (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) led the Titans with 15 points on 6-8 shooting from the floor. Briggs led the Titans in scoring for the first time since he scored a career-high 17 points in the season opener vs. Penn State-Behrend.

Senior guard Bobby Glass (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) also scored for 11 points for the Titans.

Wahab Owolabi led W&J with a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds. Matt Drakeley also scored 13 points for the Presidents.

W&J shot 46.6 percent (27-58) from the floor, including 72.7 percent (8-11) from 3-point range. The Titans fired 37.7 percent (20-53) from the field and 38.9 percent (14-36) from behind the arc.

Glass' 3-pointer on Westminster's opening possession was its only lead of the game. W&J went on a 10-0 run late in the first half before taking a 39-23 lead at halftime.

W&J swelled its lead to 25 points in the opening seven minutes of the second half. Westminster could only chop that lead down to 14 points with three minutes left in the game.

Westminster returns to action Saturday when it hosts Waynesburg at 4 p.m.
