Men's Basketball: Titans Use 21-0 Run to Win by Nine at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. - Freshman forward Adam Carswell (Painesville, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) posted new career highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Westminster College men's basketball team in its 82-73 win at Saint Vincent Saturday night. The Titans improve to 2-4 and Saint Vincent falls to 3-4 after compiling a 22-3 record last year.

Junior guard Max Spinner (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) was the Titans' second-leading scorer and rebounder with 18 points and eight boards to go with a team-high four assists.

Three freshmen reserve guards Ron Martino (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney), Jordan Greer (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Baldwin) and Liam Halferty (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) all scored in double figures for Westminster. Martino bucketed 13 points, while Halferty and Greer, neither of which scored more than four points in a game prior to Saturday, set new career highs with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

B.J. McGill and Maurice Hawkins led the Bearcats with 24 and 14 points, respectively. Both players tied for the team lead with four rebounds and three assists.

The Titans held a slight shooting advantage at 47.1 percent (24-51) to Saint Vincent's 43.9 percent (25-57), while Westminster held a 44-23 rebound advantage.

After trailing 12-3 early, the Titans went on a huge 21-0 run that spanned between both halves. The Titans trailed 26-24 then led 39-26 at halftime before their run ended with Westminster leading 45-26 with 18:05 left in the game.

That 19-point margin was Westminster's largest lead of the game. The Titans held a double-digit led the rest of the game with the exception of a nine-point spread with 8:17 left in the game and the final score.

Westminster hosts Penn State Behrend Wednesday at 8 p.m.
