WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team came from behind to earn its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win of the season with a 58-53 win at Waynesburg on Wednesday night.
Junior guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) hit a 3-pointer with 46 seconds remaining to give the Titans (4-7, 1-3 PAC) a 54-51 lead. She later knocked down a pair of free throws to ice the win. Dolsak led Westminster with a game-high 16 points including 3-8 shooting from 3-point range.
Dolsak's sister, freshman forward Emily Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald), also scored in double figures for Westminster with 11 points, while sophomore point guard Kaitlin McCarthy (Lowellville, Ohio/Lowellville) knocked down nine points and tied a season high with seven assists.
Junior guard Lynn Riley (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) also led the Titans with 10 rebounds to go with six points as the Titans held a 36-26 rebound advantage.
Westminster shot 41.7 percent (20-48) from the floor compared to Waynesburg's 37.5 percent (21-56). Free-throw shooting was pivotal as the Titans shot 81.3 percent (13-16) and the Yellow Jackets shot 29.6 percent (3-9).
Jeanette Wonsettler came off the bench and led Waynesburg (4-7, 2-2 PAC) with 16 points, mostly on her four 3-pointers, while Elisha Jones also bucketed 15 points.
Waynesburg led 27-26 at halftime before the Yellow Jackets' lead swelled to 12 points (44-32) with 11:00 to go in the game. Westminster then stormed back by going on a 14-2 run covering five and a half minutes.
Westminster returns to action at Chatham on Saturday at 2 p.m.
