WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost a closely-contested road game at Waynesburg, 88-82, Wednesday in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
Westminster falls to 2-12 on the season and 2-2 in the PAC while Waynesburg improves to 5-7 and 2-2 in the league.
Senior guard Bobby Glass (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) scored a career-high 19 points on 7-17 shooting from the field for the Titans.
Three other Westminster players scored in double figures including sophomore guard Max Spinner (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) bucketing a season-high 18 points including 14 in the first half alone. Spinner made 6-11 shots from the floor including 4-9 from 3-point range.
Junior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) posted his fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while freshman forward Rob Briggs (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) notched his second career double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.
Senior guard David Richards (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) tied a career high by handing out eight assists to lead Westminster. Richards also bucketed eight points including 3-3 shooting from the floor.
Five Waynesburg players scored in double figures led by Jason Clark's game-high 25 points and Ryan Courneen's 19 points. The two Yellow Jackets combined for nine 3-pointers as Waynesburg shot 13-26 from behind the arc as a team during the game.
Westminster shot 49.2 percent (32-65) from the floor compared to Waynesburg at 50 percent (35-70). The Titans turned the ball over 15 times and induced only eight turnovers.
After Waynesburg led 40-38 at halftime, Westminster could only take a four-point, 63-59 lead with 9:43 remaining. The game's 11th and final tie score occurred with 7:43 remaining. After that, Waynesburg led by as many as seven points but the Titans were within three points with 33 seconds left. Westminster was forced to foul after missing two shots down the stretch.
Westminster returns to action when it hosts Thiel on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 8 p.m.
