Men's Basketball: Bearcats Top Titans in Clash of League's Top Scorers

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - In a game that featured the top two scorers in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), the Westminster College men's basketball team lost 82-69 at home against Saint Vincent on Saturday. The game did not count toward the PAC standings because of Saint Vincent's Division III provisional status.

Saint Vincent (15-3) came out on top behind Joey Butler's game-high 28 points. Butler entered the game as the league's leading scorer with 20.4 points per game.

Westminster junior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), and his 19.6 scoring average entering the game, led the Titans (5-13) with 25 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and five steals.

Senior guard Bobby Glass (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) scored 15 points for Westminster on 5-11 shooting from 3-point range. Glass also handed out a game-high five assists.

Freshman forward Rob Briggs (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) was the third Titan to score in double figures as he finished with 10 points.

In addition to Butler's 28 points and team-high seven rebounds, Mike Medved bucketed 25 points for the Bearcats followed by B.J. McGill with 13 points.

Saint Vincent shot 55.4 percent (31-56) from the field including 9-19 from 3-point range. Westminster shot 41.7 percent (25-60) including 11-31 from 3s.

Westminster led by five points (28-23) in the first half but Saint Vincent went on a 12-0 run to take a 35-28 lead with 2:37 to go in the half. After Saint Vincent led 41-35 at halftime, the Bearcats would go up by as many as 16 points at the 12:16 mark of the second half.

The Titans attempted a comeback that culminated with Glass sinking a 3-pointer that drew Westminster within three points (69-66 with 5:55 to go), but Saint Vincent outscored the Titans 13-3 for the remainder of the game.

Westminster returns to action Wednesday at Grove City for an 8 p.m. tip-off. Both Grove City and Westminster are in a four-way tie for first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference as the Titans look to avenge an early season loss to the Wolverines.
