Men's Basketball: Hannon Breaks Scoring Record in Loss at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost 83-77 at Waynesburg Saturday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

Senior guard Craig Hannon (New Castle, Pa./Union) became Westminster's all-time leading scorer during the game with 18 points giving him1,633 for his career. Mike Douds held the old record of 1,629 points from 1987-91.

Sophomore forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) also nearly made history as his career-high 21 rebounds were the fourth-most in a game in team history and the most since Greg Foster grabbed a school-record 24 rebounds at Pitt-Greensburg in 2003.

Murray scored a team-high 24 points giving him his 11th double-double of the season while also dishing out a team-high five assists.

Senior guard/forward Chauncey Whitlow (Youngstown, Ohio/Woodrow Wilson) also bucketed 17 points rounding out the Westminster double-figure scorers.

Tim Drakeley led Waynesburg (8-13, 2-8 PAC) with a game-high 29 points, including 6-10 from 3-point range.

Westminster (5-17, 3-7 PAC) shot 39.4 percent (26-66) from the floor, while the Yellow Jackets shot 47.1 percent (32-68).

The Titans led by as many as eight points (10-2) in the first half before the Yellow Jackets came back to take a 33-30 halftime lead. Waynesburg went up by eight points early in the second half and, after the Titans tied the game at 48-48 with 11:47 remaining, Waynesburg led the rest of the game including as many 11 points down the stretch.

Westminster returns to action Saturday, Feb. 16, when it hosts Thiel for a 4 p.m. start.
