Men's Basketball: Geneva Staves Off Titans

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team came up short in its home game against Geneva Wednesday night, losing 67-62 after drawing within one point in the final four minutes.

Sophomore forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) led the Titans (3-14) with 21 points on 8-13 shooting from the field including 5-6 from 3-point range. Senior guard Craig Hannon (New Castle, Pa./Union) also scored 19 points on 8-9 shooting from the floor while grabbing a team-high six rebounds.

Greg McDivitt led Geneva (10-7) with a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds.

Westminster held a 51.1 percent (23-45) from the field while holding the Golden Tornadoes to 37.5 percent (21-56). Geneva held a 35-26 rebounding advantage.

Geneva came out and took a 10-point, 25-15 in the first half before holding a 32-25 advantage at halftime. Westminster then went on a 14-6 run capped off by a Murray 3-pointer that gave the Titans a 39-38 lead with 15:07 left in the game.

The Golden Tornadoes seesawed the lead back to eight points (56-48) at the 5:46 mark, before the Titans went on a 7-0 run to draw within one point after senior center Jake Zatchok (Berlin Center, Ohio/Western Reserve) knocked down a 3-pointer. However, Geneva quickly went back up by seven points and secured the win.

Westminster returns to action at Saint Vincent Saturday at 8 p.m.
