Football: Titans Too Much For Saint Vincent in 48-7 Win

LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster College football team improved to 2-0 for the first time since 1997 with a convincing 48-7 win at Saint Vincent Saturday. The Titans rolled up 438 yards of offense compared to the Bearcats (0-2) with 175 yards.

Sophomore tailback Nick McKolosky (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) rushed for a career-high 143 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns, two of which on a pair of 1-yard plunges that helped give Westminster a 21-0 lead through the first quarter.

McKolosky's previous career of 88 yards came in last week's 13-6 win at Allegheny. McKolosky is the first Westminster player to break the 100-yard rushing barrier since Sean Buggey rushed for a career-high 216 yards vs. Bethany on Oct. 15, 2005.

Westminster's first two drives ended with touchdowns. Including the first McKolosky 1-yard score on the opening drive, sophomore tailback/wide receiver Chad Rosatelli (Clinton, Pa./Hopewell) caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Kevin Franz (Finleyville, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) on the Titans' second drive.

Franz completed 16 of 28 pass attempts for 171 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. McKolosky also led the Titans with four receptions for 43 yards. Including two kick returns for 31 yards, McKolosky finished the game with 217 all-purpose yards.

After McKolosky scored on a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, Saint Vincent snuck in a touchdown strike with nine seconds left in the first half when quarterback Mike Speal threaded a 63-yard pass to Dan Blaskowski through the center of the Titan secondary.

Westminster grinded out the ball in the second half, scoring touchdowns on a 1-yard run by senior fullback Josh Kutzner (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) in the third quarter, a 6-yard reception by senior wide receiver Brett Ziegler (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) and a 1-yard run by freshman fullback Jacob Shaffer (Elmora, Pa./Cambria Heights) in the fourth quarter.

The Titans held a 26-6 advantage in first downs. The Titan offense converted 13 of 19 third downs compared to the Bearcats making just 1 out of 10, thanks to the Westminster defense, led by junior linebacker Jordan Blinn (Industry, Pa./Western Beaver) with seven tackles and freshman defensive back Daniel Joyce (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and sophomore defensive back Mario Camerota (Cheswick, Pa./Springdale) with their first career interceptions.

Westminster plays its home-opener Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1:30 p.m. when the Titans host Geneva, their most common opponent in the history of their program.
