Women's Basketball: Westminster Uses 14-0, Four-Minute Run for PAC Home Win over Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team defeated Grove City, 71-50, Wednesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

The Titans (11-4, 3-1 PAC) surged to the win by outscoring the Wolverines 39-18 in the second half after the teams were tied 32-32 at halftime. Grove City (4-11, 1-3 PAC) led 38-37 with 14:21 remaining before the Titans went on a 14-0 run to take a 13-point, 51-38 lead covering less than four minutes.

Junior reserve guard Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) scored a game-high 20 points giving her four 20-point games on the season. Sterling, who shot 6-of-12 from the field, also led the Titans with four steals.

Junior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) scored 18 points, while junior forward Terese Marszalek (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) led the Titans with a game-high eight rebounds to go with eight points.

The Titans out-rebounded the Wolverines, 42-27, and committed one less turnover (21-22). Westminster shot 63.6 percent (7-11) from 3-point range, which included sophomore guard Gina Brunetti (Canfield, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) making 4 of 5 from behind the arc to give her 12 points for the game.

Rachel McCoy and Elyse Bogusz led the Wolverines with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Westminster plays at Bethany in PAC play Saturday at 2 p.m.
