Pat Smith

Coach Pat Smith '07 enters his eighth year as the Westminster College men's and women's head swimming and diving coach for the 2022-23 season. Smith previously was an assistant coach for the Titans, a post he held for seven seasons. Smith replaced Rob Klamut in 2016, who stepped down at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season after 31 years at the helm oin the the Titans.

In the 2021-22 season, Smith helped guide the Westminster's men's team to a runner-up finish in the PAC Championship and the women's team to a third-place finish. The Titans had 21 All-PAC selections with Patrick Holton was named the PAC Men's Diver of the Year and Christina Loewe was named the Women's Newcomer of the Year. 

In 2019-20, Smith led the Titan women and men to runner-up finishes at the PAC Championships. Altogether, Smith boasted 24 All-PAC selections (second-most in the PAC) and 13 All-PAC First Team honorees. Kaitlyn Fast was named the PAC Women's Diver of the Year and Connor May was named the PAC Men's Diver of the Year.
 
In 2018-2019, Smith coached the Titan women to their first PAC Championship with Smith as their Head Coach. It was Smith’s third PAC Championship as a Head Coach (two for the men, one for the women). Smith was also named the PAC Women’s Coach of the Year, the second Coach of the Year award in his tenure.
 
In 2017-18, Smith coached Westminster to its fourth-straight men’s PAC Championship (second as a head coach) and ninth overall. In just four years, Smith has coached 100 All-PAC Honorees, including six PAC MVP’s (Mitch Stahara 2017, Connor May 2017-2019, Kaitlyn Fast 2017, 2019). Smith, in his first season at Westminster in 2016, won PAC Coach of the Year.
 
Smith was a two-time All-American for the Titans in the 200 and 400-yard medley relays. In addition to helping Westminster win three PAC team championships, Smith won six PAC individual titles, including the 200 backstroke all four years during his career. He also won the 100 backstroke in 2004 and 2007 and swam on two PAC champion 400 medley relay teams.
 
Smith also served as an assistant coach at the University of Mount Union for two seasons before returning to Westminster.
 
Smith, a native of South Park, graduated with a degree in political science from Westminster. He and his wife Brittany, a former Westminster swimmer, and their three children, reside in New Wilmington.
