Titans hold on for 2-1 win over Lycoming

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory over visiting Lycoming Saturday at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Saturday's win avenged a 4-1 loss in Williamsport, Pa. in 2025. 

Westminster kept Lycoming off the board in the opening half, with senior Emily Codere (Shelton, Conn., Shelton) making three saves, including two in a five-second span in the 30th minute. Westminster generated seven first half shots, led by four from freshman Amelia Brose (Houston, Pa., Chartiers-Houston), and freshman Madeline Barr (Grove City, Pa., Grove City) put an attempt on goal at 24:39. The half ended scoreless. 

The Titans had three shots and two corner kicks before breaking through in the 63rd minute, when senior Giulianna Russell (Kinston, N.C., Wayne Christian) scored off freshman Quinn Arnold's (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) assist for a 1-0 lead. Arnold has recorded at least one assist in two consecutive games. Brose scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from senior Abbey Whaley (Monongahela, Pa., Ringgold) in the 71st minute to make it 2-0. Lycoming scored in the 82nd minute, but Codere made saves at 84:56 and 86:51 to preserve the victory. 

Brose led the Titans with seven shots, putting two on goal. Russell scored the first goal on her lone shot attempt. Codere made five saves over 90 minutes in goal. Arnold and Whaley each recorded an assist.

The Titans are 2-0-1 overall. Lycoming fell to 0-2-0.

Westminster will host Juniata on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the UPMC Sports Complex.
