Westminster manages 1-1 draw at Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y.-- The Westminster men's soccer team played Alfred State to a 1-1 draw Friday night at Pioneer Stadium. 

Westminster is 0-1-1 while Alfred State is 0-0-1. 

Alfred State generated the first stretch of pressure with four shots in the opening 3:35, two of them saved by freshman Vasilis Kouvelas (Anthem, Ariz., Boulder Creek). The Titans answered between 12:39 and 15:46 with three shots and a corner kick, including saved attempts by freshman Tommy Armour (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) and senior Orrin Milcic (Butler, Pa., Homeschooled (Knoch)). Alfred State added chances later in the half, earning corners at 22:39 and 32:43 before Kouvelas made saves at 34:20 and 41:50. The Titans were credited with a team save at 44:53, and neither side scored before halftime.

In the second, Kouvelas made saves on shots by three Alfred State players, then stopped a penalty kick at 64:54 during an Alfred State's stretch that included multiple corners. Sophomore Alexis Bennetot (Miami, Fla., Florida Christian) put the Titans ahead 1-0 at 67:27 before Masi scored for Alfred State at 74:27 to even the match at 1-1. 

Bennetot scored an unassisted goal on his only shot. Kouvelas played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded eight saves, with four in each half.
