Men's soccer draws with Franciscan

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster men's soccer team secured a 1-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) draw with Franciscan Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex.

The Titans are 4-2-3 overall and 2-0-2 in the PAC. Franciscan is 1-4-2 overall and 1-0-2 in conference play. Westminster entered Saturday's match having lost six straight to Franciscan. 

The Titans broke through in the 27th minute, when sophomore Alexis Bennetot (Miami, Fla., Florida Christian) scored off a freshman Zayden Herb (New Castle, Pa., Neshannock) assist. It was Bennetot's sixth goal of the year. The assist was Herb's fourth this season. Freshman Vasilis Kouvelas (Anthem, Ariz., Boulder Creek) kept Franciscan off the board through stretches of first half pressure, making seven saves, including three after the goal. Westminster carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Franciscan's goal came off a missed penalty kick in the 85th minute. Kouvelas saved Andrew Goduti's penalty try, but Goduti followed with a goal off the rebound. 

Kouvelas recorded a career-high 11 saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Bennetot put two of his three shots on frame. Herb now has assists in three of Westminster's last five matches. Senior Orrin Milcic (Butler, Pa., Homeschooled (Knoch)) added three shots, including two on goal.

Franciscan had a 20-10 advantage in shots and 12-7 edge in shots put on goal. The Barons finished with nine corner kicks to the Titans' three.
