Salazar strikes in 87th minute, Titans top Allegheny 2-1

MEADVILLE, Pa.--Westminster freshman Kohen Salazar (San Angelo, Texas, Rockwall) scored off an assist from freshman Zayden Herb (New Castle, Pa., Neshannock) in the 87th minute to lift the Titans to a 2-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Allegheny Wednesday night at Frank B. Fuhrer '48 Field. 

Westminster improved to 4-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play with the win. The Titans are 4-0-1 in their last five matches. Allegheny fell to 2-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the PAC. 

The Titans kept Allegheny off the board through a late first-half push, with freshman Vasilis Kouvelas (Anthem, Ariz., Boulder Creek) saving Cole Bowser's shot in the 36th minute before Allegheny added two corner kicks and a Colin Hill shot wide in the closing minutes. Earlier, Herb and sophomore Jackson Friday (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park) each put shots on frame inside the first four minutes, both saved by Cadan Bennett. The half ended scoreless. 

Salazar scored off Herb's assist at 86:16 to put the Titans ahead 2-1 after Allegheny tied the match on Will Gruca's penalty kick in the 82nd minute. It was Salazar's second goal of the season. Earlier, sophomore Alexis Bennetot (Miami, Fla., Florida Christian) finished another Herb assist in the 55th minute, pushing his season total to five goals. Kouvelas made three saves during an Allegheny attacking stretch from 69:04 to 75:52. The Gators had a late corner and two shots in the final minute, but the Titans closed out the 2-1 win.

Allegheny finished with a 26-9 shot advantage, with both teams putting six shots on goal. The Gators attempted five corner kicks to the Titans' one. 

Kouvelas made five saves for the Titans. Wednesday was Herb's first two assist match of his career.
