Titans fall at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio--The Westminster women's volleyball team fell 3-1 at Mount Union Wednesday night. 

Westminster (5-5) took the opening set 25-21 before dropping the next three 25-13, 25-14 and 25-12. The Titans have won the first set in eight of their 10 matches this year, including each of its last six. 

The Titans got off to a hot start with the first set win, putting together a late five-point burst to close it out. Senior Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) had eight kills and hit .353 in the opener. Senior Zoie Reid (Salem, Ohio, Salem) added three first set kills. 

Trent totaled 16 kills and 11 digs to register her fifth double-double of the season. It was her third match this year with 15 or more kills. 

Junior Morgan O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) finished with 20 assists, eight kills and six digs. Junior Dakota Hershberger (Belleville, Pa., Mifflin County) added six kills and six digs. Senior Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) added 13 assists and seven digs, while junior Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) finished with 17 digs. Freshman Violet Seaman (Hartville, Ohio, Lake) added a season-high four total blocks. 

Zoe Sweigart led Mount Union (6-2) with 19 kills while hitting .333. Averi Haley recorded a team-high 22 digs, while Ava Bolen posted seven total blocks, including one solo block, and added five kills.

The Titans committed just one service error, while Mount Union produced nine aces to Westminster's four.

Up next:
Westminster will host a two-day invitational tournament Friday and Saturday, opening its four-match weekend with Denison Friday at 2 p.m.
