Westminster plays to 1-1 draw against Thiel

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster men's soccer team opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule with a 1-1 draw against Thiel Tuesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

With the tie, Westminster moved to 2-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the league. 

Westminster struck in the opening minute when sophomore Jackson Friday (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park) scored 45 seconds into the match off an assist from freshman Owen Householder (Clairton, Pa., Thomas Jefferson). The goal was Friday's first of the season, while the assist was Householder's fourth of the year. 

Westminster carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. 

Mitchell Strauss knotted things up at 1-1 in the 64th minute. The goal was Strauss' second of the year. Senior Orrin Milcic (Butler, Pa., Homeschooled (Knoch)) had a terrific strike with a second left in regulation that was turned away by Thiel keeper Dylan Budziak. 

Freshman Vasilis Kouvelas (Anthem, Ariz., Boulder Creek) finished with four saves for the Titans. 

A total of 10 cautions were issued Tuesday night, along with one dismissal. Thiel had a 12-11 edge in shots, while shots on goal were even at 5-5. 

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Bethany, W.Va. to face Bethany at 4 p.m. on Friday. The PAC match will be played on Hoag Field.
