Titans top Mount Aloysius in home opener

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster men's soccer team opened its home schedule with a 3-1 win over Mount Aloysius Saturday evening at the UPMC Sports Complex.

The Titans opened the first half with freshman Owen Householder's (Clairton, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) goal off freshman Zayden Herb's (New Castle, Pa., Neshannock) assist in the second minute for a 1-0 lead. Freshman Vasilis Kouvelas (Anthem, Ariz., Boulder Creek) made three saves as Mount Aloysius generated several chances, and freshman Tomas Grajales-Franco (Bonita Springs, Fla., Mason Classical Academy) added a goal in the 36th minute from freshman Jagger Boyd's (Pittsburgh, Pa., Avonworth) assist. The Titans went into halftime ahead 2-0.

Leading 2-1, Westminster absorbed a late Mount Aloysius push, facing two corners and two shots without conceding. Freshman Daniel Schweitzer (Shippenville, Pa., Clarion) scored in the 88th minute off Householder's assist to extend the advantage to 3-1. 

Householder scored on his only shot, added an assist and finished with three points. Grajales-Franco scored the game-winning goal on his lone shot on goal. Schweitzer added a goal on his only shot. Kouvelas played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded five saves while allowing one goal.

The Titans are now 2-2-1. Mount Aloysius fell to 1-2-2.

Westminster opens its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule Tuesday against Thiel. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 p.m. at the UPMC Sports Complex.
