Titans drop home opener to Franklin & Marshall

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster football team lost its home opener 45-8 to Franklin & Marshall Saturday at Memorial Field inside Harold Burry Stadium. 

The game was stopped for 30-plus minutes early in the second quarter due to severe weather in the area. 

F&M (2-0) went into the half leading 17-0 after Michael Fleming's 38-yard field goal with nine second left in the second quarter and pushed its lead to 31-0 in the third after Jadon Prinzivalli's 15-yard scoring rush with 9:28 remaining and Michael Ferranti's 33-yard touchdown reception from Prinzivalli with 3:34 to go. 

Westminster (0-2) junior Sean O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) scored his second rushing touchdown of the season on a 1-yard run one second into the fourth. F&M responded with a pair of fourth quarter scores. 

O'Shea rushed nine times for 60 yards and completed 8-of-15 passes for 55 yards. Sophomore Geno Perry (Lowellville, Ohio, Lowellville) rushed nine times for 39 yards. Sophomore Lawrence Grayson (Washington, D.C., Paul Laurence Dunbar) caught three passes for 23 yards. Sophomore Rocco DiFlorio (Youngstown, Ohio, Austintown Fitch) paced the defense with 11 tackles (4 solo) and 1.5 tackles for loss. Sophomore Devin Mila (Davie, Fla., University School) added nine tackles (6 solo). Senior Deshaun McBryde (Apollo, Pa., Kiski) had three tackles (2 solo) and a sack. 

F&M outgained Westminster 385-182 and had a 24-11 advantage in first downs. The Diplomats finished with 36:27-23:23 edge in time of possession, including a 20:28-9:32 margin in the second half. 

Up next:
Following next Saturday's bye, Westminster will open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Sept. 26 at Waynesburg. Kickoff from John F. Wiley Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
