Westminster ekes out wild win at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa.--Westminster junior Sean O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) ran for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns while sophomore Gaven Nagy (North Lima, Ohio, South Range) blocked an extra point attempt with just over two minutes left in regulation to help the Titans escape with a 21-20 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Waynesburg Saturday afternoon at John F. Wiley Stadium.

O'Shea connected with sophomore Lawrence Grayson (Washington, D.C., Paul Laurence Dunbar) on a 14-yard touchdown with 53 seconds left in the first quarter to open the scoring. It was Grayson's first receiving touchdown this season. O'Shea's 2-yard scoring run with under a minute left in the second quarter stretched the Titans' lead to 14-0. He had a career-long 79-yard rush on the previous play. Waynesburg pulled to within a score with 18 seconds left in the half when Jaylen Bester hooked up with Tyler Richmond on a 15-yard scoring pass.

Waynesburg tied the game at 14-14 with just over nine minutes to go in the third when Dominic Hickman found Isaiah Fields for a 12-yard touchdown before O'Shea's 5-yard touchdown run with 6:17 left put the Titans back on top, 21-14. Zayne Cawley's 8-yard run with 2:14 remaining capped a Yellow Jackets' eight-play, 62-yard drive and cut Waynesburg's deficit to one, 21-20, before Nagy's block of Drew Pinkerton's extra point try.

On Westminster's next series, the Yellow Jackets forced the Titans into a third-and-13 from their own 48-yard line. The ensuing punt was blocked by Ethan Floyd, giving the Yellow Jackets the ball at Westminster's 32-yard line with 1:38 to play. Waynesburg worked the ball to Westminster's seven-yard line with three seconds left before Pinkerton's field goal attempt sailed wide left.

O'Shea finished with 110 rushing yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns on six attempts. It was the second 100-yard rushing game of his career (157, at Franklin & Marshall, 09/13/25). He completed 8-of-15 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Quentin Goode (Aliquippa, Pa., Aliquippa) was 7-of-12 passing for 72 yards. Sophomore Geno Perry (Lowellville, Ohio, Lowellville) rushed 21 times for 79 yards while senior Jayveerh White (Sharon, Pa., Sharon) totaled 40 yards on five carries. Westminster ran for a season-high 236 yards Saturday. Grayson led seven Westminster pass catchers with four grabs for 55 yards and a score.

Sophomores Devin Mila (Davie, Fla., University School) and Rocco DiFlorio (Youngstown, Ohio, Austintown Fitch) had eight tackles apiece to lead the Westminster defense. Mila forced a fumble in the opening quarter. Juniors Lamont Austin (Sharon, Pa., Sharon) and Aiden Fletcher (Tarentum, Pa., Deer Lakes), along with Nagy, added five tackles each. Sophomore Kaeden Donovan (Buffalo, N.Y., Williamsville North) totaled four tackles and stopped a Waynesburg scoring chance late in the third quarter with his first career interception.

Freshman Isaac Smalls (Beaufort, S.C., Battery Creek) averaged 33.3 yards on three kickoff returns. He had a 44-yard return late in the first half.
