Westminster women open season with scoreless draw

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster women's soccer team played Oberlin to a scoreless draw Tuesday evening in its season opener at the UPMC Sports Complex.

The match was the season opener for both teams.

Senior goalkeeper Emily Codere (Shelton, Conn., Shelton) recorded seven saves over 90 minutes and posted a shutout. Freshman midfielder Quinn Arnold (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) shared the team lead with four shots and put one on goal. Freshman forward Amelia Brose (Houston, Pa., Chartiers-Houston) also finished with four shots, including one on frame.

Westminster and Oberlin played a scoreless first half, with Oberlin holding a 6-5 edge in shots and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Titans put two attempts on frame, both saved by Asha Locke, while the Titans kept Oberlin off the board during a stretch that included four shots and two corners between 11:20 and 22:29.

The Titans were outshot 10-7 in the second half, with Codere making seven saves while Oberlin held a 3-1 advantage in corners. The Titans generated six of their seven shots after the 76:27 mark, including saved attempts from Brose and sophomore midfielder Autum Fichter (North Canton, Ohio, Hoover).
