NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Westminster College Director of Athletics Jason Lener '93 announced the hiring of Christopher Carfangia, PGA, as its new head golf coach Monday. Carfangia brings 35 years of elite golf instruction and player development experience to New Wilmington, including more than 15,000 individual coaching sessions and a proven track record of developing golfers at the junior, collegiate, amateur and professional levels.

A PGA Class A Professional and 24-year PGA member, Carfangia has coached more than 50 collegiate golfers representing over 34 colleges and universities, along with six Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) high school state champions.

Carfangia got his start at Oak Tree Country Club in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania, before moving on to The Country Club of Meadville. He took over as the PGA Director of Golf at Pine Lakes Golf Club in Hubbard, Ohio in 2002, where he's remained for the last 24 years.

"Chris has the experience, professionalism and perspective to build and run our (golf) programs in a championship manner," Lener said. "From player development and competitive preparation to organization, culture and the day-to-day operation of the programs, his background has prepared him to create a professional environment where our student-athletes can develop, compete and succeed, and we're excited to give him the opportunity to put his vision into action at Westminster."

Throughout his career, Carfangia has emphasized individualized player development, competitive preparation and the complete development of the golfer. His experience includes designing personalized development plans centered on swing mechanics, short game, course management, mental performance and tournament preparation, while also creating and directing high school and youth golf camps. In addition to his work with players, Carfangia has mentored fellow golf instructors, helping strengthen instructional quality and grow successful golf programs.

Carfangia also brings extensive experience as a competitive player and leader within the PGA. He most recently competed in the 2025 PGA National Senior Club Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, Florida, providing him with firsthand tournament experience while strengthening player preparation for collegiate competition.

A former member of the Northern Ohio PGA (NOPGA) Board of Directors, Carfangia has also worked with the organization's Associate, Teaching and Growth of the Game committee initiatives and has received multiple nominations for Northern Ohio PGA Teacher of the Year, Junior Golf Leader Award, Growth of the Game Award and Public Merchandiser of the Year.

A native and longtime resident of Hubbard, Carfangia and his wife, Nicole, have two children: son, Taggart, a sophomore at Chatham University, and daughter, Taylor.
