Westminster drops opener at PAC Championship Tournament

WASHINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster baseball team opened its run at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament with a 9-0 loss to Chatham Wednesday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park.

Westminster, the six-team tournament's No. 1 seed, fell to 28-11. Chatham, the No. 6 seed, improved to 29-12. 

Chatham struck for five runs early with a three-run first and a two-run third. The Cougars added four more runs in the top of the ninth. 

Junior Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) went 2-for-3 with a walk. It was Zeigler's 15th multi-hit game this season. Freshman Grayson Eicher (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) was 2-for-4. Freshman Devin Mila (Davie, Fla., University School) led off with a base hit to stretch his hitting streak to eight-straight games. 

Junior Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) fell to 4-3 with the loss. He allowed five runs (4 earned) on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 3.0 innings. Sophomore Jack Strausser (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) worked 5.1 relief innings, allowing four runs (4 earned) on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Freshman Nate Lemke (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) got the final two outs, allowing one hit. 

Up next:
Westminster will take on the loser of Game B between No. 2 Washington & Jefferson and No. 5 Grove City Thursday at 11 a.m. in the tournament's first elimination game.
