Westminster claims top seed in PAC Championship Tournament with sweep

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster baseball team earned the No. 1 seed in next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament with Saturday's Senior Recognition Day sweep of Hiram. The Titans scored a 10-1 victory in game one before posting a 7-2 win in game two. 

Westminster honored its four seniors prior to the first pitch: Jonathan Mollo (Germantown, N.Y., Germantown Central), Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk)Tyler Staub (Edinburg, Pa., Union) and Tyler Parsons (Hebron, Ky., Conner)

Westminster improved to 28-10 overall and 17-5 with Saturday's two wins. The 28 victories are tied for the most single-season wins: the 2012 PAC championship team finished the year 28-17. This is the first time Westminster has clinched the top seed in the PAC Championship Tournament. 

Game 1: Westminster 10, Hiram 1
The Titans used six different pitchers in the game one triumph. Reed improved to 3-0 with the win, allowing one hit in 2.0 innings. Mollo walked one and struck out a pair in 3.0 innings. 

Westminster was fueled by an eight-run sixth inning. Freshman Devin Mila (Davie, Fla., University School) had a two-run single before junior Braden Zeigler's (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) two-run double broke things open. 

Sophomore Aaron Jones (Buffalo, N.Y., Canisius) went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored. Freshman Breckin Minich (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Game 2: Westminster 7, Hiram 2
Westminster ran out six more pitchers in its game two win. Freshman Jacob Harrelson (Canal Fulton, Ohio, Green) improved to 6-1 with the victory, allowing one run (earned) on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Sophomore Brandon Roher (Trafford, Pa., Penn-Trafford) went 2.0 innings, allowing one hit. Junior Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) worked 2.0 innings and struck out three. 

Junior Conner Adams (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. It was his second three-hit game of the season. Minich was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base. It was his second three-hit game in the last three. Junior Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored. 

Up next:
Westminster will open up PAC Championship Tournament action Wednesday against No. 6 Chatham. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Washington & Jefferson's Ross Memorial Park.
