Westminster forges split with Pitt-Bradford

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster softball team earned a non-conference split Thursday against Pitt-Bradford, falling in game one 8-3 before rallying for an 11-1, five-inning victory in game two. 

Game 1: Pitt-Bradford 8, Westminster 3
Down 3-0 through three innings, Pitt-Bradford scratched out one run in the fourth before putting together a five-run fifth. The Panthers add two more runs in the seventh. 

Senior Jenna Boneysteele (Carnegie, Pa., Chartiers Valley) took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs (4 earned) on six hits with two walks and a strikeout in 4.0 innings. Junior Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) allowed four runs (4 earned) on eight hits with a strikeout in 3.0 innings.

Sophomore Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Sam Levac (Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Garth Webb) had an RBI single in the second.

Game 2: Westminster 11, Pitt-Bradford 1 (5 inn.)
Junior Riley Salazar (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) secured her first collegiate victory with a five-inning complete game effort. She allowed one run (earned) on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. 

Westminster (16-8), leading 5-0 after two innings, broke things open with a five-run third, sending 10 batters to the plate. 

Junior Faith Jones (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) finished 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. It was her second four-hit game this season. Sophomore Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Coraopolis, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, marking her eighth multi-RBI game this year. Her .466 average ranks third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Senior Kelly Troup (Mogadore, Ohio, Field) was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. 

Up next:
Westminster returns to PAC action Saturday at Washington & Jefferson (10-14, 4-8 PAC). The first pitch from Brooks Park is scheduled for 1 p.m.
