Jones' walk-off highlights Saturday's split with Geneva

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Sophomore Aaron Jones' (Buffalo, N.Y., Canisius) game two walkoff keyed the Westminster baseball team's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) split with Geneva Saturday afternoon. The Titans suffered an 8-5 game one loss before Jones' walkoff secured a 2-1 bounce back win in game two.

Game 1: Geneva 8, Westminster 5
Geneva jumped out to an 8-1 lead through three innings, plating three runs in the first before adding five more in the third.

Sophomore Tom Rook (Clarence Center, N.Y., Clarence) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. His RBI base hit in the eighth cut the Golden Tornadoes' lead to 8-2. Senior Tyler Staub (Edinburg, Pa., Union) drilled a two-out, two-run double to trim the deficit to four, 8-4, before freshman Grayson Eicher (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) followed with a run-scoring triple. It was the first triple of his collegiate career. Eicher finished 2-for-2. Junior Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) was 2-for-5.

Junior Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) fell to 3-1 with the loss. He allowed eight runs (8 earned) on 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Senior Jonathan Mollo (Germantown, N.Y., Germantown Central)
threw 4.0 relief innings, allowing one hit while striking out one batter. Junior Kyle Hampson (York, Pa., Dallastown) worked a scoreless ninth, walking two and strikeout out one.

Game 2: Westminster 2, Geneva 1
Jones staked Westminster to a 1-0 lead in the third a two-out, run-scoring base hit. After Geneva tied it at 1-1 in the top of the ninth, junior Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) hit a two-out single before advancing to third on Lyons' double. Marquis scored the game-winning run on Jones' single.

The top third of the Titans' lineup went a combined 8-for-15 in the nightcap. Marquis was 3-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base while Lyons went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two stolen bases. Jones was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Sophomore Ian Temple (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.

Sophomore Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) was credited with the relief win to improve to 3-0 this season. He allowed one run (earned) on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Senior Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) allowed six hits with a walk while striking out three over 6.1 scoreless innings in a no-decision.
