Westminster earns PAC sweep of W&J

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster baseball team claimed a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep of 19th-ranked Washington & Jefferson Wednesday afternoon, rolling to a 4-0 victory in game one before freshman Breckin Minich's (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) walk-off RBI base hit in the 11th keyed the Titans' 4-3 triumph in the nightcap.

Westminster ran its overall record to 18-6 while pushing its conference record to 9-1. It was the program's first doubleheader sweep of W&J since April 12, 2003.

Game 1: Westminster 4, W&J 0
Freshman Jacob Harrelson (Canal Fulton, Ohio, Green) fired 8.0 scoreless innings to improve to 4-0 this season. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out a career-high nine. Sophomore Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) worked a scoreless ninth.

Junior Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Junior Conner Adams (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Game 2: Westminster 4, W&J 3 (11 inn.)
Sophomore Aaron Jones (Buffalo, N.Y., Canisius) led off the bottom of the 11th with a triple before Ziegler was intentionally walked. With two outs, Minich delivered the game-winning single to center to score Jones, who had a walk-off single Saturday in Westminster's 2-1 game two victory over Geneva.

Zeigler went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. His solo home run in the sixth was his second this season. Zeigler has 10 multi-hit games this year. Jones was 2-for-5 with a triple and a stolen base. Sophomore Tom Rook (Clarence Center, N.Y., Clarence) went 2-for-4 while Minich finished with a pair of base hits.

Sophomore Jack Strausser (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) earned the relief win, walking one and striking out two in 2.0 innings. Junior Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) took the no-decision, allowing three runs (3 earned) on eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Carrier worked 2.1 relief innings, striking out three.

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Pittsburgh Saturday to take on Chatham (18-7, 4-6 PAC). The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 11 a.m.
